Circling The Drain

This is a warning and a safeguard for all. There will be some of us who find that we are unable to enter God's rest. What is the problem? The problem is that we are dying spiritually. We are circling the drain.

There are some whose love will dissipate. Little by little we get more and more consumed with ourselves and our deal and the care and concern that we once had for others in the world starts to evaporate.

There will be some who become ineffective and unproductive in ministering. Some will become lukewarm, some will give way to fear, some will draw a line in their relationship with God. Some will not make every effort or be willing to give up everything. Some will look back, immediately becoming unfit for service in the kingdom. Some will not hold up to the standards of the bible that requires us to walk in the light and will succumb to darkness and eventually reap the consequences of walking around in the dark: you stumble and do not know what makes you fall. 1 John 2:11.

Some will just love their lives and will not be willing to make room for God or his word. John 8:37. Some will fall under the verdict that they have lost their saltiness and will find themselves fit only to be thrown out. Matthew 5:13. Some will refuse to get, possess and retain a real ability to demolish strongholds or pretensions and therefore will succumb to ways that are not the bible. Luke 8:15 and 2 Corinthians 10:5. Some will be religious, gathering when we gather and appear to be like us. They will have a form of godliness but deny it's power.

In all of these cases, it is just a matter of time before God renders his verdict for the choices that some have made and will continue to make. Revelation 2:21-22 reads: “I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways.”

Usually people swirl around the drain for a long time as they kick against the goads of God, but eventually God then resolves, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years.” Genesis 6:3. We should not test God and show contempt for his kindness, tolerance and patience shown to us.

Make no mistake, if you are circling the drain it is because of your own disobedience. Hebrews 4:6. In Jeremiah 2:5 God says, “What fault did your fathers find in me, that they strayed so far from me?” Perhaps you could answer that question for yourself. What fault did you find in God? Why are you following worthless idols?

It is never too late to get out of your own personal whirlpool draining down to death and destruction, but it will depend entirely on you to get yourself out. In this ministry, God sees to it that there are numerous ways out that are provided by his people (1 Corinthians 10:13) who are always willing to offer you good advice and sound counsel. The problem is that the people circling the drain keep rejecting the advice. It is the worst when we feel in our hearts the sentence of death for others.

If you are circling the drain (and some are), here are some questions for you that should bring you back to your senses if you have any sensitivity left (after sin hardens your heart):

Are you going to let yourself go out like this? Really?

What about those who depend on you? Are you really so hardened beyond recovery that you can ignore their needs?

Are you good with Jesus being mocked by you as you live a life that shows that you don't care that he poured all his life out to death for you?

Are you not going to regard disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than what the world can offer?

Do you really want to believe a lie?

Knowing what you know, how is it that you could be a person who resolves to go back to a lukewarm life of some sin? Someone who possesses any love would rather kill himself than let his sin affect someone else.

We have seen too many circle the drain until they are finally embittered for no good reason to where they can justify in their hard heart that they can leave. What they are really doing is turning their backs on God.

So what's the answer? How do we keep these people from circling the drain and eventually dying spiritually? Sadly enough, all we can do is hold out the word of life, the perfect law that gives freedom, the truth that can set them free. It is unfortunately not up to us. It is up to them to come to their senses and escape. 2 Timothy 2:26.

Are you going to snap out of it, or are you going to see if you can survive going around a few more times?

Is this what you envisioned yourself being when you said, “Jesus is Lord?”

How do you accept what you are then?

Do something about it!

Get up!
